Biography
James attended school in Townsville and, after attending the University of Queensland, completed his articles in Townsville, and at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1982 and was a partner in Munro Colman Houston and Thompson Solicitors, in Mooloolaba from 1982 to 1988. He moved to Brisbane in late 1988 and joined Cooper Grace and Ward, where he was a partner from 1991 to 1994. As a solicitor James practised extensively in Planning and Environment law, but also dealt with a range of other civil litigation areas. James was admitted as a barrister in 1994.
James holds a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland.
James practices primarily in planning and environment, local government and mining, energy and resources law. He also works in the areas of compulsory acquisition and resumptions.
Since coming to the bar, James has provided advice to and represented developers, councils, government departments, community groups and other submitters in court proceedings, negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes.
