OUR foundation

A nod to history

‘Lucinda’ was the name of the Queensland state steam yacht on which the Australian Constitution was drafted in 1891. Cutting edge in both design and elegance, Lucinda was taken to Sydney by Sir Samuel Griffith — then Queensland Premier and later Chief Justice of Queensland and then inaugural Chief Justice of Australia — for the first National Australian Convention. Across three days of intensive drafting, from 27 to 29 March, the final substantive draft of Australia’s foundation legal document was completed.
